Good afternoon , This year, National Fire Prevention Week has put the spotlight on preventing and containing lithium-ion battery fires. As battery plants and large-scale battery storage facilities expand, traditional fire protection systems present unique challenges, particularly when thousands of batteries are stored in racks and sprinkler systems must work in a way that does not interfere with costly robotics systems and other equipment. Dan Bird, one of the leaders at Classic Fire + Life Safety, can speak to how the industry is adapting. Dan helped identify a gap in conventional sprinkler protection and worked with Reliable Sprinkler on the development of the Model LB11 Horizontal Sidewall Storage Sprinkler head. This is the first sprinkler head specifically designed to address fire protection of Lithium-ion batteries in manufacturing and warehousing facilities that utilize an automatic storage retrieval system. For business and engaged media, Dan can discuss: - Why lithium-ion battery fires require a different approach to fire protection
- How the rapid growth of EVs and battery manufacturing is creating new risks for businesses
- The challenges of protecting tens of thousands of batteries stored in racks
- How the LB-11 was developed to provide protection without sprinkler piping and hangers interfering with robotic systems
- Why designing fire protection into a facility from the outset can save businesses time and installation costs
- What recent battery fires can teach businesses about preparedness and prevention
Fire protection systems are having to evolve alongside new technologies and companies investing in batteries, EVs and energy storage are facing hazards that didn't exist at the same scale a decade ago. Fires in battery plants can quickly grow out of control like the fire in a plant in South Korea where as many as 23 lives were lost. Would you be interested in speaking with Dan Bird for Fire Prevention Week about the changing fire protection landscape for battery facilities? Happy to coordinate an interview.
