FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

€2.99M Horizon Europe Initiative Champions Circular Economy, Skills, and European Economic Competitiveness

  • Drives European competitiveness by fostering extensive cross-border collaboration among 10 leading academic and industrial partners, enabling rapid sharing of expertise and resources in the circular economy.

  • Promotes excellence and innovation through researcher mobility, joint training programs, and diverse cooperation agreements that connect institutions across seven countries and build capacity where most needed.

  • Accelerates the translation of research into economic and societal value, supporting Europe's position as a leader in sustainable growth and market-driven solutions for the circular economy.

Talent Pass, a flagship Horizon Europe initiative coordinated by Institutul de Chimie Macromoleculară “Petru Poni” (ICMPP) of the Romanian Academy, seeks to redefine how Europe advances in the circular economy.

By bringing together 10 leading academic and industry partners from seven countries, the four-year project is designed to bridge gaps in talent mobility, knowledge transfer, and sustainable innovation.

At its core, Talent Pass seeks to address the persistent challenges that have historically hindered the effective translation of research into real-world impact, namely, fragmented academic-industry collaboration, uneven knowledge and talent circulation, and a lack of robust structures for cross-sectoral learning and innovation.

Accelerating Innovation Through Mobility

The Talent Pass project consortium features four academic and six non-academic partners representing both widening countries (Romania, Portugal, Slovenia, Turkey) and non-widening countries (Italy, Spain, United Kingdom). This diverse network ensures that capacities are built where they are needed most while connecting institutions across geographic and sectoral divides.

At the heart of Talent Pass are programs that combine secondments, hands-on coaching, targeted workshops, and bespoke training curricula for early-career researchers. These activities are designed to:

  • Promote cross-sector and cross-border circulation of researchers and innovators.
  • Build capacity and high-quality skills in the circular economy, especially in widening countries.
  • Create direct pathways to career progression, institutional transformation, and research management excellence.

Fostering Cross-Sectoral and Cross-Border Collaboration

Talent Pass champions a borderless, innovation-driven ecosystem for Europe’s research and industry. By fostering robust partnerships, the project enables joint research initiatives and enduring cooperation agreements that bridge academic and non-academic communities. This approach:

  • Sparks new research themes and emerging technologies across European regions.
  • Accelerates the conversion of research outputs into tangible economic and social solutions.
  • Lays the groundwork for scalable, evidence-based strategies to address the challenges of the circular economy.

Driving Sustainable Growth and Lasting Impact

Beyond technical objectives, Talent Pass is committed to lasting impact. Its efforts contribute to Europe’s trajectory as a global powerhouse in green innovation, with benefits such as regenerative growth, reduced resource pressure, and the creation of sustainable jobs.

The project supports the European Research Area (ERA) Policy Agenda (2022–2024) by ensuring the robust circulation of talent and interdisciplinary collaboration at national, regional, and continental scales. It aims to reduce pressure on natural resources and create sustainable growth and jobs and it’s connected to the Circular Economy Action Plan for a Cleaner and More Competitive Europe (2020).

Talent Pass’s integrated model enhances access to excellence, fosters equal opportunities for researchers and other R&I talents, and solidifies a Europe-wide network of world-class talent and infrastructures. Through strategic career development, managerial training, and institutional support, the project seeks to position Europe at the forefront of innovation-driven, circular economic transformation.

Building the Future for Europe

Talent Pass is more than a research project; it is a catalyst for structural change, strategically aligning resources, talent, and partnerships to create enduring benefits for Europe’s innovation ecosystem.

As the project progresses toward its completion in May 2029, it will continually open new pathways for mutual learning, empower R&I talents from widening countries, and strengthen Europe’s global leadership in sustainable circular economy research and innovation.
