Ohio State primary care providers to join Mercy Health Select Accountable Care Organization

Collaboration will create more coordinated care for patients with Medicare benefits

COLUMBUS, Ohio – As of Jan. 1, 2026, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center primary care providers will join the Mercy Health Select Accountable Care Organization (ACO).

Mercy Health Select is a nationally ranked ACO that offers proven success in value-based care.

ACOs such as Mercy Health Select are networks of doctors, hospitals and providers that work together to deliver quality care to patients with Medicare benefits and lower healthcare costs.

“Our collaboration with Mercy Health Select enhances care for patients by improving outcomes, reducing costs and strengthening coordination across the care continuum,” said John J. Warner, MD, CEO of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and executive vice president at Ohio State. “It exemplifies our commitment to deliver world-class care to every patient, every time.”

ACOs that provide high-quality care and reduce health costs may qualify to share Medicare savings through performance payments via Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP).

“We’re proud to welcome The Ohio State University primary care provider practices into Mercy Health Select Accountable Care Organization Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) beginning January 1, 2026,” said Kevin Hartman, Chief Medical

Officer for Mercy Health—Population Health. “This collaboration represents a mutually beneficial opportunity to deliver more coordinated, patient-centered care for their patients participating in the MSSP. By aligning our two leading organizations, we’re expanding access to high-quality services and strengthening our ability to meet the evolving needs of the communities we serve.”

This new ACO builds on The Healthy State Alliance, which is a strategic partnership between Mercy Health and Ohio State Wexner Medical Center to improve the health of all Ohioans. In late 2018, the two organizations set out to tackle Ohio’s most critical health needs, focusing on addressing the opioid epidemic and increasing access to cancer and transplant care to create healthier communities throughout Ohio.
