A section of the Entertainment District has been reopened after a suspected gas leak.

Toronto Police said on social media that Peter St. had been closed between Queen St. W. and Richmond St. W. and some buildings had been evacuated after receiving reports at about 8:40 p.m. of a two-alarm fire that broke out in a garage.

Police said just after 10 p.m. that roads had been reopened after the fire was extinguished and the gas leak repaired.

Firefighters had originally been asking residents of other buildings to shelter in place after a “gas-fed” fire had been extinguished in the garage of a building, according to the Toronto Fire X account.

Fire officials then said at about 9:30 p.m. that Enbridge had been notified of the incident and was en route, adding firefighting operations were continuing.

“TFS crews have shut off gas supply and remain on scene monitoring air to ensure the safety of all in affected area,” Toronto Fire said on X.

No injuries have been reported so far.
