The busy Naramata Bench has another marketing enclave. The recently launched Aikins Loop Wine + Spirits Cooperative is a collection of five local beverage experiences in a walkable 1.5-kilometre radius. The producers include Deep Roots Winery, Elephant Island Winery, JoieFarm Winery, Legend Distilling and Van Westen Vineyard. Visitors are invited to start anywhere, park once, sip, bike, walk and wander to their heart's delight while enjoying a variety of wine styles, ciders, spirits and cocktails. Leave the car behind entirely and take advantage of the hop-on, hop-off wine trolley's regularly scheduled stops at Van Westen Vineyards from Penticton.
B.C. wine of the week
Lunessence Estate Single Vineyard Field White 2022, Okanagan Valley
$26.99 I 89/100
UPC: 793588413194
This is year three for this Alsace-inspired Gentil blend made with certified organic fruit. The blend is 64/30/ Riesling, Gewürztraminer and Pinot Blanc. The attack is fresh with plenty of fragrant floral and tropical tones, followed by crunchy primary orchard fruit flavours dusted in lemon, lime and minerality. Clean and bright, this is all you could want in a summer sipper grown in the Summerland area. The wine spends five months on its lees, adding a further dimension to a tidy little white you can serve with various bites.
Value wine of the week
Bisquertt Crazy Rows Carignan 2020, Valle del Maule, Region del Valle Central, Chile
$17.99 I 87/100
UPC: 7804343005585
Strawberries, sour cherries, and dried herbs preview a light, juicy, tart barbecue red from 70-year-old Carignan vines in Maule. Coastal Cauquenes is home to ancient, sandy loams formed from granite and full of quartz and other minerals. It's fermented with native yeast in old concrete tanks for two weeks without controlled temperature and aged in concrete tanks for six months. Think Rhône and the south of France and barbecued meats.
